Kingdom Keys: Unlocking the Beauty Behind His Eyes

    Kingdom Keys

    Written by: Taesha Milfort

Have you ever wondered what you might see if you could look at yourself through the eyes of God?

As I sat outside, I admired the beauty before my eyes. I looked around and saw the clear blue sky, the green shrubs, and heard the birds singing in the background. I gazed at the horizon in awe and thought, “Wow, this is beautiful.”

Then I looked at the hills in the distance. They were all different shapes, uneven edges, sharp corners, a mixture of brown, dark green, and light green trees. Nothing about them was perfectly symmetrical or uniform, yet somehow, it all came together beautifully.

Then I thought, "How can something so imperfect be so beautiful?"

I sat there in awe, thinking about how the Lord made all of this by His hand. The skies, the hills, the trees, the birds… every detail of creation and how beautiful it all was.

Then, in that quiet moment, the Lord subtly reminded me that He views every one of His creations with that same kind of joy and wonder.

    Even me.

    My eyes lit up.

    “Meee???”

    Then, it hit me:

There is beauty even in imperfection.

Nothing the Lord has created has fit the world’s definition of “perfect”. Creation itself is filled with differences, irregularities, textures, shapes, and colors. Yet when we look at it, we stand in awe.

So why do we struggle to believe that the One who created us could look at us the same way?

Take a look at what it says in Song of Songs 4:7

"You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you".

In the father’s eyes he views our imperfections as beautiful….unique…. Stunning…. Breath taking. The world may teach us to examine ourselves and identify every imperfection as a flaw, something to hide, fix, compare, or be ashamed of. But the Word of God tells us something completely different. It says :

“Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother’s womb. I thank you, High God you’re breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration. What a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, The days of my life all prepared before I’d even lived one day.” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭139‬:‭13‬-‭16‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Imagine the intention that went into creating Adam and Eve.

Scripture says, “Then the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed the breath of life into his nostrils.” — Genesis 2:7 NLT

There is something so intimate about the word formed… breathed. You have to get close to something to breathe on it. God could have simply spoken humanity into existence as He did other parts of creation, yet Scripture describes Him forming man from the dust and breathing life into him.

Like an artist creating a sculpture, carving every curve, shaping every detail, and considering every color and every feature.

    He made YOU.

    Not accidentally.

    Not carelessly.

    Not as an afterthought.

    Intentionally.

The word says “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus…” — Ephesians 2:10 NLT

You heard right... a masterpiece. A masterpiece does not become a masterpiece because it looks like every other piece of art. Its beauty is found in the intention of the artist who created it.

And after God created mankind in His own image, Scripture says:

“God saw all that he had made, and it was very good.” — Genesis 1:31 NIV

    Not simply good.

    VERY GOOD.

The Passion Translation captures the emotion behind this moment even more beautifully. It says, “God surveyed all he had made and said, ‘I love it!’ For it pleased him greatly…” (Genesis 1:31 TPT).

So when you admire the works of the Father’s hands, when you look at crystal clear skies, mountains and hills of different shapes, trees swaying in the wind, the colorful feathers of a peacock, flowers blooming in the spring time, or a rainbow stretching across the sky after heavy rain… remember that YOU TOO are the work of His hands.

The same God who painted the sky formed you.

The same God who gave the peacock its colors chose the details that make you distinct.

The same God who shaped mountains without making one identical to another intentionally created you with features, characteristics, gifts, and qualities that are uniquely YOURS.

“The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship.” — Psalm 19:1 NLT

    And so do YOU.

It may be difficult to see ourselves this way because we have been conditioned to look at ourselves through the eyes of the world. But perhaps part of learning to see ourselves clearly is learning to see ourselves through the eyes of our Creator.

When you stand in awe of His creation, remember the Creator’s thoughts toward you.

The wonder and excitement you experience when you taste something and think, “Wow…this tastes so good!” or look at something and say, “Wow…this is beautiful,” is a reminder that you too, are His workmanship; carefully formed, fully known, and intentionally created.

And just as you can recognize and appreciate the beauty of what He has made, you can rest in the truth that God knows you completely, created you intentionally, and calls you His workmanship, His greatest creation and deeply loved by Him.

Scripture says, “Open your mouth and taste, open your eyes and see how good God is. Blessed are you who run to him.” Psalms‬ ‭34‬:‭8‬ ‭MSG‬‬

You are not separate from the beauty of His creation. You are part of it.

And among everything He created, humanity was the creation He chose to make in His own image.

“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them.” — Genesis 1:27 NIV

When we admire the works of the Father’s hands, whether it be the skies, the trees swaying in the wind, the colorful feathers of a peacock, the mountains in the distance, or a rainbow appearing after heavy rain, let it remind us of the One who created it all and that the same hands that created all of that created YOU.

The same God who carefully shaped the mountains, painted the skies, gave each flower its color, and made every detail of creation unique also formed you with intention. Just as you can look at His creation in wonder and marvel at its beauty despite its differences and imperfections, remember that the Lord looks upon the work of His hands with delight, and that includes you.

So when creation causes you to stop, stare, and think, “Wow… this is breathtaking.” Let that moment remind you that you are also His, formed by His hands, known intimately by Him, and something He delights in.

Let the beauty of creation remind you of the beauty of being created by Him. Let the wonder you experience toward His handiwork remind you that YOU TOO, are His handiwork whom he loves.

    This is a Kingdom key.

    Food for Thought:

Take a moment to look up the hebrew meaning of the word "Tov". If you believe that an artist can take delight in the beauty of their own work, can you trust that there is beauty in the way God created you?

If God does not create by accident, what parts of myself have I been treating as though they were mistakes?

Whose standard have I been using to define my beauty and worth, God’s or the world’s?

    Prayer:

Lord, your beauty has no end. Thank you, Lord, for creating me in your likeness. Your hands created the heavens, the earth, and me alongside it. Open my eyes so that I may see the beauty that you have cultivated in me and through me. Help me to see myself through your eyes so that I may continue to rejoice in this truth in all my days. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.
